Above Board Valuation officially launched in October of 2022.  But, the idea started many years before.  The founder and Chief Appraiser, Jeremy McGarrah, had a dream of starting a company of his own since graduating from college.  But, graduating with a Bachelors in Computer Science, loads of college debt, no money in the bank, and newly married, taking a job as a software engineer and the stable salary won out over the entrepreneurial itch.  Fast forward ten years and Jeremy fell in love with real estate.  He bought his first foreclosure in 2011, rehabbed it, and rented it out for a couple of years before selling it for a sizeable profit.  Jeremy thought, this is easy!  Let’s just keep doing this.  But, again, life got in the way. Now with three kids to feed and diaper… and feed and diaper… and… well, you get it.  So, Jeremy kept working his job with a steady paycheck and benefits.  But, then Jeremy had gotten to the point where he knew if he was ever going to go out on his own, there was never going to be a perfect time.  A wise friend quoted an ancient Chinese proverb, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.  The second best time is now.”  He was right.  So, Jeremy knew he was ready.  And he knew he wanted to be in the real estate profession somehow.  Jeremy had decided that real property appraisal was the perfect fit!  It not only kept him in the real estate industry that he fell in love with ten years prior, but also took advantage of his engineering mindset and data-driven analysis skillset which he had developed working as a software engineer.  So, in 2022 after ~20 years of developing knowledge, experience, and skills, Jeremy started Above Board Valuation.
